Bel Air, Leadenhall

The Leadenhall Building, London
December 2016

The requirements
Bel Air are an ever-growing fresh fast food outfit whom pride themselves on providing fresh and nutritious packed food to their customers. With restaurants throughout London their latest requirement for a coldroom was at their new restaurant in the Leadenhall building. Due to the strict requirements of the Leadenhall site and the tight kitchen area the coldroom and its refrigeration equipment had to be tightly sited to suit the layout.

Our solution
Scandia were brought in from the first phase of works and brought to site alongside shopfitters to discuss the best possible solution for both the refrigeration and the coldroom requirements whilst keeping costs at a minimum, quality at high-end and installation time short.

Scandia supplied and installed a bespoke L-shape coldroom with the refrigeration system located high-up in a service riser with fresh air ventilation.

Bank of England Sports Ground

Roehampton
October 2016

The requirements
The Bank of England Sports Ground and its facilities has been steeped in history since the early 1900s, as part of a kitchen renovation the client required their coldrooms to be removed from site and replaced with up-to-date rooms and refrigeration equipment to be able to cater with their ever-growing large events. As a seen product from the servery the rooms needed to be built into a tiled archway in order to look the part.

Our solution
Scandia attended site to discuss the full requirements and the schedule for the removal and the fit-out of new working coldrooms with the BofE. Re-designing the room layouts to optimise as much storage space as possible meant the BofE were left with functional, practical and good-looking coldrooms with space for their stacked product and space for trolley parking, only made easier by the addition of an internal ramp. To ensure the busy site could still operate and produce for events, Scandia provided refrigerated trailers for the duration of the works.

The specification
Walk-through style dual compartment
  • Freezer 3200mm x 2000mm x 2000mm
  • Chiller 3200mm x 2000mm x 2000mm

Chicken Despatch Area

Twickenham
March 2017

The requirements
One of London’s busiest chicken distribution factories has been continuously growing over the years and required a refurbishment of their chilled despatch area, involving a 14m x 4.1m x 3.3m high extension, a large despatch door, panel protection needing replacement, and some other doors in need of refurbishment and replacement. The main emphasis on the project was minimum disruption and as much separation as possible between each temperature controlled area.

Our solution
Scandia attended site on various occasions to discuss and see the full extent of the new chilled area and replacements needed as well as planning the installation. The surrounding rooms were temperature controlled, however for separation purposes the areas needed to be closed off with several doors, two of which needed replacing, one of which needed refurbishment.

We removed a 1500mm opening sliding door, cut the opening further and fitted a new 2100mm opening sliding door with a wide vision panel for despatch staff to signal to packing staff.

We removed their main sliding door, cut open even further and higher then fitted a new sliding door with a wicket-style hinged door for ease of access in and out without needing to open the full door. This door was also fitted with a vision panel so despatch staff could communicate with prep staff. The front of the newly built despatch area was then fitted with an insulated electronic roller shutter for speed and ease of despatch.

All doors and panels were protected by aluminium chequerplate and steel angles and goalposts.

Clitheroe
June 2017

The requirements
One of our top customers had a client in the north as part of a refurbishment project with a new central kitchen area. With the site’s set-to-be large functions the premises required a number of different coldrooms with a specific food separation to each all to serve the busy kitchen. The rooms were to fill the kitchen from left to right, creating a true ‘back-of-house’ layout.

Our solution
Scandia were able to keep up with a busy, everchanging site and hold off manufacturing until the last minute before installation meaning what was made fitted and our team were away from the site as soon as possible to allow other tradesmen to work in the area. Last minute uncovering’s found a large beam covering the walk-through of one chiller, discussing the best way of moving forward and reaching the customers most ideal end solution, we decided to split the room entirely 50/50 and create a back entrance, creating two chillers from one.

Natural

Thurrock
July 2017

The requirements
One of our customers of over 30 years had a client with a specific requirement of a 4-compartment suite to serve the large production area of a new processing warehouse. Budget was tight but the client needed as much storage space as possible.

Our solution
Scandia stayed on the side line assisting with technical detail and solutions for value engineering. By dropping the height to only a useable height with shelving this reduced refrigeration costs and total coldroom costs. Due to the warehouse’s layout, we were able to suggest hinged doors to save costs of sliding doors. By creating a large L-shape of the coldroom the forklifts in the warehouse were about to manoeuvre around the rooms and the entire footprint of the warehouse have a filled, useful space. When key handovers were delayed, tensions of starting the build started to rise, our customer and Scandia were able to turn around order receipt, manufacture and installation completion within a 16-day period.

The specification
  • Multi-compartment L-shape suite
  • Total footprint: 24500mm x 11000mm x 2500mm
